Raise the Minimum Wage, says Tory!

Not afraid? You should be.Not afraid? You should be.

Man of the people, George Osborne, the Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer has proclaimed that it is his plan to support the proletariat from poverty by calling for an above inflation rise in the UK’s National Minimum Wage from a paltry £6.31 to a whopping £7.00!

The government plans to see the rise occur from October of this year and is a massive U-turn on the usual bashing of the British working public. So why the sudden concern for the general public, why the much needed rise to the NMW? The rise will occur just 7 months before the General Election in 2015.

It appears that George Osborne along with his despicable boss have tried to outflank Ed Miliband over the cost-of-living issue by calling for the dramatic rise to restore it to its pre-recession value.

Do the Tories really believe that the British voting public are really that stupid and that raising the NMW to only £7.00 will cause them to forget the daily flogging that many have had to endure under the ConDem government whilst being informed constantly that “we are all in this together”? It appears that they do.

Apparently the idea came about following a lengthy debate in Tory circles, led by his mates, Matt Hancock and (Boris’s brother) Jo Johnson, over the need for a major increase in the minimum wage.

The Low Pay Commission is due to make it’s recommendation next month.

Mr Osborne said: “Because we are fixing the economy – because we are working through our plan – I believe Britain can afford an above-inflation increase in the minimum wage so we restore its real value for people and we make sure we have a recovery for all and that work always pays”; also saying that he believes businesses would be able to absorb the increase. I am sure that his rich corporate buddies will love that one.

Of course, we would have to say kudos to “Red” George but does he really believe that £7.00 will be enough? The Living Wage Foundation thinks not. Following consultation and research into living costs, the LWF says that a reasonable “living wage” for the UK should be set at £7.65, whilst London and the South East of England should be around the £8.80 mark.

Even London’s buffoon Mayor, Boris Johnson, backs the living wage, saying that “Paying the London Living Wage is not only morally right, but makes good business sense too.”

So George, you can go back and inform the rest of your Tory friends that whilst the British public is happy that you have started caring about them all of a sudden, they would like you all to try a little harder. Oh and one more thing, try not to screw us all over again once our backs are turned.
